how to use SSL

in order to encrypt parts of the site, specifically the admin logon and moderator logon, we need to implement https.  there are no system options for doing this, so it must be somehow handled in the individual pages to force HTTPS.

The Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is used to encrypt data as it is sent down a connection. This protects data from being intercepted for malicious use via what is referred to as a 'man in the middle' attack.
