Resist Resistance

I am concerned by reports from my colleagues in the field and coverage in ag publications that many Southern growers this season missed the window for preemergence residual herbicide applications or were not able to make the timely applications needed for proper activation.   Glyphosate-resistant Palmer pigweed is starting to create serious issues for these growers and, in some cases, could lead to total losses if drastic measures are not taken.

It’s important for Midwest growers who have not yet witnessed first hand the devastating effects of this weed to change their practices before it is too late. Weed control programs that rely solely on repeat applications of glyphosate are a serious threat to the success of long-term weed management, no matter where you are or what crop you are producing.  Weeds including waterhemp, marestail and giant ragweed have been confirmed resistant to glyphosate in certain Midwest states, and Palmer pigweed is now showing signs of resistance. See for yourself on our interactive map at http://www.resistancefighter.com/, which pinpoints confirmed and suspected resistance down to the county level.
