Don’t Let History Repeat Itself, Again

The introduction of LibertyLink® soybeans has given growers a new tool to utilize in their fight against weed resistance. Although weed control experts are encouraging the use of the technology in rotation with other management practices, they also are encouraging growers to proceed with caution.

In a recent Q&A published by the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service titled “Ten Questions and Answers About Liberty-Link® Soybeans in Georgia”, extension agronomists Eric Prostko and Jared Whitaker offer tips and recommendations for utilizing the system.  Among their recommendations, Prostko and Whitaker state that the LibertyLink weed control system must be used following or in combination with a residual herbicide.

When used correctly, the LibertyLink system can help growers effectively manage glyphosate-resistant weeds. However, the continued use of residual herbicides and alternate modes of action are still necessary to preserve the viability of the system. It is no silver bullet and has its limitations, but the LibertyLink system certainly can help lighten the load if we use this new technology wisely.

Here are the Syngenta weed management recommendations when using a Liberty Link soybean system.
