Marestail on Your Mind?
With the holidays quickly approaching, marestail and how to manage it may not be as top-of-mind as it will be in the spring. However, now is the time to take out winter annuals and marestail so you can improve your potential to start the 2010 season clean.
Untreated fields that resemble the photo below rob your soil of the vital nutrients that help cotton, soybean and corn establish early-season vigor needed for maximum yield.

With glyphosate resistance further complicating weed control, the need to incorporate fall/early-winter application of a residual herbicide to catch weeds, like marestail, when they are small and keep fields clean until planting is even greater.
A fall/early-winter application of Envoke
® herbicide followed by Gramoxone Inteon
® at burndown is an effective combination to start off clean in cotton. As seen below, the untreated side of the field has heavy weed pressure while the right side is clean. This clean start will allow cotton seedlings to thrive without competition from weeds.
