Resistant Weeds Losing Fight to Pre-emergent Residuals

Growers in Georgia who have been on the forefront of the battle against glyphosate- and ALS-resistant Palmer pigweed have learned over the last few seasons that being proactive is a necessity. As one Georgia consultant summed it up, “We simply cannot grow cotton or soybeans in our area without using pre-emergence residual herbicides. ”

These photos show the stark difference in Georgia fields where pre-emergence applications were made with residual herbicides like Prefix® and Reflex® compared to adjacent rows that did not receive those treatments.

Prefix applied pre-emergence on the left compared to no pre-emergence application on the right.

You can tell to the row in this cotton field where Reflex was applied pre-emergence and the rows that did not receive a pre-emergence treatment.

Compare the soybean field above with the one below.  The use of pre-emergence herbicides like Prefix in this instance can be the difference between making a crop and losing one.
