Use Herbicides Appropriately and Responsibly

When it comes to herbicide resistance, one strategy that is often overlooked is the simple idea of using the herbicide correctly. It may seem obvious to know your weeds and read application instructions carefully, but all too often, this is not the case.

Using the full, labeled rate and following the application timing instructions is the first step.  It is also important to know the weed spectrum in the field and take note of any irregularities, like weed escapes. Especially in the case of glyphosate resistance, rotating herbicide modes of action is also important. Understanding if two herbicides are from the same family can easily be found on the label.

There are always exceptions to the rule, but to ensure the effectiveness of the herbicide, following the label guidelines is a good place to start.

What part of label instructions do you feel is most often overlooked or ignored?
