Kill Weeds Early in Cereals, Too

Earlier this week, we discussed the importance of killing weeds earlier as a glyphosate resistance management tool in corn and soybeans.  However, killing weeds early is important in all crops, even when glyphosate isn’t in the picture.

ALS and ACCase herbicide resistance in cereals, for instance, is a huge concern for growers throughout the country.  Getting to the weeds early in these crops is an essential component to a solid resistance management plan, and it helps protect against yield loss, as well.  Take the chart below, for example.  These broadleaf weeds can significantly reduce wheat yields, so getting them early before they spread both fights resistance and protects yield potential.  It’s a win-win solution for growers to consider as they manage their cereal crops.
