Glyphosate Resistance in Cotton

A March 19, 2007 article in Southeast Farm Press raises the issue of glyphosate resistance for cotton growers.  One of the main hurdles in the fight against weed resistance to glyphosate is the fact that cotton farmers have many issues to worry about, and time is spent elsewhere.  However, agricultural researcher Roy Cantrell predicts glyphosate resistant pigweed will be one of the major production challenges for cotton growers in 2007.

In this article, Cantrell states that it is difficult for growers to spend time and money to develop a management system to prevent resistance because they are not required to do so.  Do you agree or disagree and why? What would have to change in order to convince growers to develop a resistance management plan?
