Exercise Proper Use

The RRÔ Flex cotton system can be an important tool for cotton producers, but it doesn't take away the importance of diversifying herbicides used on the acre to control mixed weed populations.   Rotating herbicides with different modes of action through premixes and/or tank mixes is also important in managing weed resistance.  Using residual herbicides and controlling weeds prior to emergence provides for optimum crop yield and helps take the pressure off glyphosate.

Some of the many benefits of residual herbicides include:

·        Improving the efficacy of RR systems when incorporated into early-season applications

·        Controlling weeds that are difficult to kill with glyphosate alone, such as morningglory, nutsedge, hemp sesbania and dayflower species

·        Managing species that germinate throughout the season

·        Allowing for extended application flexibility and reduced weed competition

The proper use of herbicides in the RR Flex cotton system will preserve the valuable technology, so give glyphosate a needed rest!

RR Flex Cotton Offers:  Increased flexibility in managing weeds

Syngenta Recommends:  Use preemergence residual herbicides and glyphosate premixes or tank mixes with residual herbicides early in the season for extended application flexibility and reduced weed competition.

RR Flex Cotton Offers:  Potential for greater weed control efficacy due to extended period of herbicide application permitted by improved crop tolerance

Syngenta Recommends:  Large older weeds are tougher to control and over-the-top applications make it more difficult for the herbicide spray to penetrate the crop canopy to control the weeds.   Always apply herbicides according to label directions and use the recommended rate for weed control.   Optimum weed control results from applications on small, actively growing weeds.

RR Flex Cotton Offers:  Reduced labor costs

Syngenta Recommends:  Using residual herbicides early to remove weed competition with a young developing crop can offer many benefits including reducing the number of trips across the field – saving time, labor, application expenses, fuel and equipment costs – as well as preserving yield.
